FairEmbo can be literally translated as
"Fair and equitable embolization

What is arterial embolization?

Arterial embolization is an interventional radiology technique that enables a bleeding vessel to be occluded quickly, effectively and safely.
Widely deployed in Western countries, it now replaces conventional surgery (e.g.: childbirth hemorrhage, internal hemorrhage in road accidents and other bleeding).

  • Technique: stopping bleeding by direct injection of an occlusive product (embolization agent).

Why and what is the aim?

  • Reduce mortality due to hemorrhage in emerging countries
  • Make the procedure accessible, by replacing these occlusive agents(expensive and not widely available) with surgical suture fragments(available worldwide and inexpensive).
  • Encourage and facilitate this practice by local interventional radiologists to SAVE LIVES.

And what about research?

Following a pre-clinical phase demonstrating the efficacy of arterial embolization using sutures, published in a specialist medical journal, the first patient was successfully treated by Professor Adboulaye Ndoye DIOP of the Gaston Berger University in Saint Louis, Senegal, and a hospital practitioner at Dakar University Hospital.
