The "Marseille Imaging" institute is launching its " Research 2026 " call for projects to promote co-design and innovation by fostering collaborations between players in data science, instrumentation and application fields in the following scientific areas:
- Ultimate imaging
- Imaging therapy
- Emerging and breakthrough techniques
- Imaging for the greatest number
The institutes are Aix-Marseille University structures supported by AMIDEX funding.
The total budget allocated to the call for tenders in 2026 is 100 k€.
TYPES OF PROJECT
- Innovative collaborative project in biological or medical imaging
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- Theme
- Projects in line with the scientific priorities of the Institut Marseille Imaging, focusing on biological or medical imaging.
- Co-design
- Projects involving at least 2 laboratories/units belonging to the Institut Marseille Imaging (see list on the form).
- The project leader
- Member of the research units attached to the Marseille Imaging Institute.
- New permanent staff and/or post-docs are strongly encouraged to submit, as well as members presenting new lines of research.
- Special conditions: must not have been a prize-winner (promoter and co-promoter) in the last 2 calls (either in 2023 or 2025).
- Must attend hearings to defend their project.
ELIGIBLE EXPENSES
Funding will be approximately €25k per project.
It is important to note that expenses must be allocated to institutional expenses (amU) in accordance with AMIDEX budgetary rules, as follows:
- Equipment expenses: equipment costing between 800 and 5,000 euros. The purchase of computer equipment is subject to prior approval.
- Operating expenses: consumables, missions, etc.
- Salary-related expenses: the duration will be adjusted in line with the cost involved.
Comment: the project sponsor must detail the budget planning according to expenditure by mass (Operating, Investment and Payroll) over the year 2026, with reference to AMIDEX financial regulations, and undertakes to respect it.

EVALUATION
- Innovative character, potential leverage towards larger projects (ANR/European) and technological valorization will be important factors.
CONDITIONS OF COMMITMENT
- FUNDING
- Projects are planned to run for 12 months. The budget must be distributed over the year 2026 as closely as possible to reality. Expenditure must take place before October 30, 2026, with no deferral possible.
- Expenditure must be in line with the expenses listed and justified by the project leader at the time of submission.
- IMPACT AND PROMOTION
- The project sponsor undertakes to respond to any requests from the Marseille Imaging Institute concerning the impact of project funding.
- Publications must be deposited in the A*Midex HAL AMU collection, the University's open archive.
All publications and scientific communications related to the project and supported by the Marseille Imaging Institute must mention the following sentence in the acknowledgements:
"This work was supported by the French government as part of the France 2030 investment plan, as part of the Aix-Marseille Université - A*MIDEX Excellence Initiative(AMX-19-IET-002)".
